Menu for Rillito Park Farmers Market 10/31

Dear Green Heart Friends,

Boom!  And just like that - holiday season is upon us, and (seemingly) smart shoppers are already ordering their Rainforest Cakes for shipping across the U.S. (!)  I know I am surprised, and startled to be suddenly "behind", and "so busy".  (I THOUGHT I was busy before.)  The smart shoppers here in Tucson have begun reserving pies for Thanksgiving -- now THAT I can understand 😎. (We plan to send out our Thanksgiving menu in a couple of weeks.)

I am trying out a new tart this Sunday:  White Chocolate Berry.  Let's see how it goes, as the recipe came off the internet.  As you know, these bloggers are writers and photographers - not chefs.  I know how disappointed I was with the White Chocolate Apricot Bars I tried last winter.  Fingers crossed.

Heads up for November 6/7:  Green Heart will be at Harlow Gardens Holiday Fair, as we've done for years, with the exception of 2020 when it was cancelled.  Harlow is at 5620 E Pima St and is a lovely nursery set under huge shade trees.  The same established artists have booths; there is no entrance fee.  We are the food vendor for the event.  Hours are 9 to 5 on Saturday; 9-3 on Sunday.  You will be able to pick up your order there, either day (letting us know WHICH day you will come).

In the meantime, this Sunday 10/31, we are at Rillito Park as usual.  Happy Halloween; costumes are optional.

Creamof Cauliflower Soup

Onions, potatoes, white wine, lots of cauliflower, carrots, peas, & even parsnips. (GF, SF, oil-free, nut- free) $7

Frozen: Southwest Black Bean; Mushroom Barley $7.

Potato “Steaks” Almondine

Thick slices of Russet potatoes, steamed, then broiled w/tamari sauce. Served on a bed of cooked spinach & white beans, topped with sliced almonds sautéed in white wine and garlic. (GF, soy-free, dash of olive oil) $12

Pasta e Fagioli

Our pinto bean-based sausage helps flavor this thick hearty dish of cannellini beans & WW pasta with Italian herbs & Kalamata olives. Definitely a meal. (soy-free, oil-free) $11

Nicoise Salad

Mock tuna (garbanzo beans, fresh herbs, nutritional yeast, kelp, gluten-free tamari, pickle relish, our house made mayo, onion), mixed greens, red potatoes, green beans, tomato, Kalamata olives, vegan Ranch dressing (soy-free vegenaise, coconut yogurt, dill, parsley, onion and garlic powders)

(GF, no nuts, oil in vegenaise) $8.50

Sandwiches

BBQ Jackfruit on a “Bun”: Jackfruit dry-sauteed and marinated in our house-made BBQ sauce, with our cashew cheez spread on an Ezekiel English muffin, masquerading as a healthy bun. $8.50 (GF, SF, no added oil) $9

Chickpea Mock “Tuna”: 8 oz container, or on Dave’s Killer Bread. This is very low fat, as we make the “mayo” (tofu, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, Dijon, agave), and high in fiber and plant protein. $8. (filling is GF, oil-free)

Curried ChickUn Salad: 3 grain tempeh in a dressing of mayo and mango chutney, mixed with celery, raisins & roasted cashews. 8 oz container, or on Dave’s Killer Bread. $9.00 (filling is oil-free)

Seitan Reuben: house made seitan corned “beef”, sauerkraut, our house made cashew cheez, with our Russian dressing, on organic sprouted rye. $10

Healthy Desserts

Banana Chocolate Chip Cake: organic whole grain oat flour, gently sweetened w/agave, & frosted in our silken tofu-based chocolate frosting: tofu, dark

chocolate, maple syrup, vanilla. $7 (GF, nut-free, no oil)

White Chocolate Berry Tart: In an oat-almond flour crust, 2 layers: first, cooked mixed berries, and second, a vegan white chocolate layer of cashews, coconut milk & white chocolate. Garnished with fresh berries. (GF, soy-free) $7

Pumpkin Mini-Pies: in a GF oat crust, the pumpkin filling has a silken tofu base. Perfectly sweetened and spiced. $6.50. (no added fat, not even in crust)

Organic Apple Hand Pies: in an organic sprouted spelt crust. The apples are mildly sweetened w/agave. (soy-free, nut-free) $6.50

Alaine’s Rainforest Cake – a loaf made of Brazil nuts, dates, 2 kinds of dried apricots, pineapple, raisins, craisins, fresh orange zest, agave and brown rice flour.

By the slice $4; the 1 lb. loaf $22, or 2 lb loaf $35

You can pre-order the loaves; we will only have slices at the market this Sunday.

Breakfast

Pumpkin Cranberry Scones (GF, SF, nut-free) $4

Chocolate Zucchini Breakfast Muffin These also contain oat bran. Half as sweet as our brownies; half the amount of cacao. (GF, nut-free, oil-free) $4.50

Cranberry Bliss Bars (GF, oil-free) a bar made with organic whole grain oat flour, with a touch of orange zest, tart fresh cranberries & walnuts, sweetened w/coconut sugar & topped with vanilla cream cheez frosting (tofu-based) 4.50

Chispa Meal Bar: dates, almond butter, prunes, pineapple, cranberries, Turkish apricots, Blenheim apricots, almonds, walnuts, pecans, quinoa flour, brown rice flour, ginger pieces, cinnamon, orange zest, dark chocolate mini-chips, flax seeds, inulin, glucomannan powder, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, vanilla. 3 oz. This is designed to be a meal as it is very filling, as well as nourishing. $4.50
