Sunday 5/1 May Day Farmers Market

 

Dear Green Heart Friends,

It just keeps getting earlier, earlier!  I plan to arise at 3 am this Sunday in a (new) attempt at making the Reubens, loading up, and getting to Rillito in time to get ALL SET UP before 8, when the first customers arrive. Let's see how I do!

Zoe has resigned, so Leila will assist some Sundays, and possibly James, who will also assist in the kitchen this Saturday.  I know James (and his wife) from the market; he responded to my Kitchen Angel Wanted post on Facebook. Thank goodness!

Prices. Sticker shock. I see them, and get it.  Leila and I intend to do some "costings" when we get a chance. (I'm sure you're experiencing it, too.)  Our prices are creeping up, too, as I know you've noticed.  Ugh.  That's it.  I just felt I should acknowledge the situation, period.

We delivered a little less to Midtown Vegan Deli the past 2 weeks, focusing on the weekends (Easter, and Earth Day) -- now looks like there is someone there (Noel) who is avidly watching and promoting our baked goods so that we can find out what has sold, or not.  And so, we're back at it, having already sent a big order this morning, and another planned for the weekend.

This was a simple wedding cake that went to Vivace for a young couple from Louisville, KY, who came to Tucson for the weekend, and got married.  Organic chocolate cake, filled and frosted with our silken tofu chocolate frosting, then on top of that - a fluffy vegan buttercream.  She wanted Apricot Mallow wildflowers on the cake, and fortunately, we have some growing on our property :-)

This was a last-minute Tofu Uncheesecake for a birthday party at Zeman's, also Saturday night.  This is topped with organic berries and glazed in apricot preserves.

For tonight, I have a large Lemon Raspberry cake covered in gold.  Photo to come later......

Frozen Soups:  Corn Chowder; Split Pea (only 2 remaining)  $7.

Thai–Inspired Tempeh Salad

A rainbow of colors:  shredded red cabbage, red bells, orange carrots “spiralized”, green spinach, green onions, with buckwheat soba noodles, and crispy tempeh bites, with a peanut-lime-tamari sauce/dressing.  (organic ingredients! GF, SF, no added oil) $11.

Shepherd’s Pie

Assorted vegetables & white beans in our almond milk-based gravy, seasoned with sage & thyme, topped with a sweet potato “crust”.  (GF, SF, oil-free) $11.00. *no mushrooms this time*

Southwest Black Bean Salad

Organic black beans, jicama, green onion, red bell, roasted corn in a fresh lime juice dressing. (GF, SF, no oil). 10 oz. $9.00

 


Sandwiches

Chickpea Mock “Tuna”:  8 oz container, or on Dave’s Killer Bread. This is very low fat, as we make the “mayo” (tofu, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, Dijon, agave), and high in fiber and plant protein. $8. (filling is GF, oil-free)

BBQ Jackfruit on a “Bun”:  Jackfruit dry-sauteed and marinated in our house-made BBQ sauce, with our cashew cheez spread on an Ezekiel English muffin, masquerading as a healthy bun. $9.00 (GF, SF, no added oil)

Seitan Reuben:  house-made seitan corned “beef”, sauerkraut, house-made cashew cheez spread, with our Russian dressing, on organic sprouted rye. $10.

Healthy Desserts

Peanut Butter Chocolate Uncheesecake: chocolate crust, topped with peanut butter uncheesecake, topped with our chocolate mousse (GF, no added oil) $7.50 slice.  I will also have several 4” round uncheesecakes: they are $8.

Pina Colada Uncheesecake Bars:  coconut uncheesecake topped with organic pineapple (GF, no added fat). $7.

Chocolate Cherry Peppermint Truffles (raw) $2.50 each; 3/$6

Chocolate Raspberry Tarts (GF, no nuts) 7.50
