Menu for Rillito Park Farmers Market 5/15 8 am - Noon

 

Dear Green Heart Friends,

Well.  Easter and Mother's Day are behind us, and suddenly, it feels like summer is upon us.  Triple digits are predicted for Sunday.  You may want to pick up your order early.  OR:  Leila has suggested that we offer delivery (for a fee) as we did for the holidays last year; let me know if that interests you, and Leila will be in touch (send your phone number as she sends text messages).  I chose dishes for the menu this week that are delicious eaten hot or cold or room temp.  (The Borscht is to be eaten cold.)

Also a heads-up:  I plan to put the weekly menu "on hiatus" during July & August.  Although I will go to Northern California briefly in July to rendezvous with my family there (haven't seen them since 2019), I will be here.  Leila will be assisting me in getting caught up on everything I ignore on a regular basis :-).  I will still make special order birthday cakes, and special orders in general.  You may wish to place an order for dishes that freeze well (the lasagna or the kale potato enchilada casserole come to mind) as many of you did in 2020 when Ted and I went to Pagosa Springs for July... and then moved in August from Linden St to the Sabino Canyon rental.  Leila and I will still supply Midtown Vegan Deli with (primarily) cookies and cakes; as they are making their own savory items now, we stick with the healthy sweets.

In the meantime, let me know what you'd like to see on the menu between now and July -- and we will probably make it!

Green Heart MENU for Sunday 5/15

@ Rillito Park Farmers market

8:00 am – noon (at the latest, as it will be hot)

Summer Borscht w/Cucumber & Fresh Dill

Yes, beets pureed, cucumbers, fresh dill from our garden & with coconut yogurt. Very refreshing. (Cold soup!)  (GF, SF, oil-free, nut-free) $7.50

Frozen: Corn Chowder, Spring Barley $7.

 

Forbidden Rice Bowl w/Pickled Cabbage

A creamy miso-ginger dressing (on the side) of assorted organic veggies (including broccoli & cauliflower) and edamame, over black rice.  The pickled purple cabbage on top adds tangy flavor. This can be eaten hot or cold or room temp.

(GF, oil-free, nut-free) $12

 

Pasta Pesto

w/sundried tomatoes, garbanzos, and asparagus. We make the pesto with a roasted sunflower seed base, no oil & lots of fresh basil – lemon juice for zing. The pasta will be the organic yellow lentil & brown rice spaghetti from TJ’s. (GF, soy-free, oil-free) $11.

Nicoise Salad

Mock tuna (garbanzo beans, fresh herbs, nutritional yeast, kelp, gluten-free tamari, pickle relish, soy-free vegenaise, onion), mixed greens, red potatoes, green beans,tomato, Kalamata olives, vegan Ranch dressing (soy-free vegenaise, dill, parsley, onion and garlic powders)

(GF, SF, no nuts, oil in vegenaise) $9.00

 

 

 

Sandwiches

Chickpea Mock “Tuna”:  8 oz container, or on Dave’s Killer Bread. This is very low fat, as we make the “mayo” (tofu, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, Dijon, agave), and high in fiber and plant protein. $8. (filling is GF, oil-free)

Seitan Reuben:  house made seitan corned “beef”, sauerkraut, our cashew cheez spread, with our Ukrainian dressing, on organic sprouted rye. $10.

 

 

Healthy Desserts

Organic Strawberry Shortcake: oat flour vanilla mini-bundts topped with sliced, slightly-sweetened strawberries. Topped w/our tofu-based “cream”.  $7.

German Chocolate Cupcakes:  pecans & coconut in coconut milk for a healthy German chocolate cupcake (GF, no oil)

Triple Berry Mini-Pies w/streusel top (GF, SF, oil-free) 7.00 each

Organic Raspberry Blueberry Tarts (GF) 7.00

(Specify soy-free filling if desired.)

Apricot Pecan Scones $4.00 (GF, SF)

Blueberry Oat Bran Muffins (GF, SF, oil-free) 4.50

*Samoa Cookies* dipped in chocolate; healthy version of the Girl Scout cookies 3 small cookies in container (SF, GF, no nuts) $4.

Oatmeal Applesauce w/Chocolate Chip (SF, GF, no added fat, no nuts) 4.50

Molasses Ginger (GF, no nuts) 4.50

Wendy’s Wonder Bars: made of ripe banana, rolled oats, craisins & almonds – that’s it! No added sweetener, and very nourishing and filling. Courtesy of Ted’s sister, Wendy ☺ (GF, SF, no added fat) $4

Lemon Bars:  sweetened with organic birch xylitol, on an oat flour crust (GF, oil-free) $5

Lemon (No) Sugar Cookies: almond flour, coconut oil, maple syrup, fresh lemon (GF, SF) 3 in a pack $4
