Menu for Rillito Park Farmers Market Sunday 4/2/23, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

 

Dear Green Heart Friends,

Spring has sprung, and Ted will make Spring Barley Soup with asparagus and peas:



And bringing back the Baked Biryani from Forks over Knives:




This week's menu is attached, as always.  What I will say is that the baked goods listed are the "goals".  It has been challenging the past weeks with Leila gone, and trying to train someone to replace her. It seems she's irreplaceable, and so I have been doing my best to figure out new schemes & plans to get the baking completed.  We start again with new trainees this week; I don't know how long it will be before it's smooth sailing again.  Cathy Tate, Ted and I have the savory covered; no worries.  Unfortunately, there aren't enough days in the week for me to bake everything I usually do + birthday cakes & custom orders, and everything that Leila was making.  I will do the best I can!  So, if you order a scone, for example, and they don't get made, you know why:  not enough time.

The great news is that this is the closing Sunday for the horse racing.  And their contract expires this year 2023.  And the County Board of Supervisors will vote whether to renew their contract.....

Spring Barley Soup

Barley, green peas, fresh asparagus, onions – seasoned with Ted’s fresh garden herbs ( SF, oil-free, nut-free) $7.50

 

Frozen we have:   “Cream” of Cauliflower (only 2)

Crab Cakes w/tartar sauce and Fried Potatoes

 Lion’s Mane mushrooms shredded and made into crab cakes.  They contain WW bread crumbs.  The tartar sauce is soy-free Vegenaise based.  Pan-sauteed russet potatoes on the side, & a bit of coleslaw.  (soy-free) $12.  

PLEASE SPECIFY IF YOU NEED GLUTEN-FREE BREAD CRUMBS.

Baked Vegetable Biryani

A classic Indian dish, typically made stovetop, baked in the oven, as a casserole, with layers of organic brown basmati rice and vegetables:  green beans, carrots, red bells, all diced in one layer, and cauliflower, eggplant & zucchini diced in another layer, seasoned with garam masala, fresh ginger, garlic & onions. (GF, soy-free, nut- and oil-free) $13.

 

 

Sandwiches

Chickpea Mock “Tuna”:  8 oz container, or on Dave’s Killer Bread. This is very low fat, as we make the “mayo” (tofu, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, Dijon, agave), and high in fiber and plant protein. $9. (filling is GF, oil-free)

Seitan Reuben:  house made seitan corned “beef”, sauerkraut, our cashew cheez spread with our Russian dressing, on organic sprouted rye. $11 (soy-free)

Millet Lentil Loaf:  sprouted organic millet & lentils cooked with onion & herbs, then sliced as a loaf.  On Dave’s Killer Bread w/our house made cashew cheez and ketchup. $10.

·      Yes, you can order the Millet Lentil Loaf by itself.  Small loaf is $12.00

 

Healthy Desserts

Carrot Cake by the slice:  organic oat flour, organic carrots, pineapple, raisins, pecans, agave-sweetened.  (GF, no added oil) $7/slice

Hand Pies:   organic Blueberry; organic Peach – sprouted organic spelt crust (SF) $7.50

 Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes (GF, no added oil) $4.50

Organic Strawberry Rhubarb Mini-pies w/streusel top (pecans, coconut, dates, maple syrup) (GF, SF, oil-free) $7.

Toasted Hazelnut Truffles (raw & rolled in coconut) $2.50/each, or 3/$6

Organic Fresh Berry Tarts (GF, no nuts) 7.50 Please specify if you’d like soy-free filling.
